Focus on Geophysics 2

13 Mar 2018, 14:15 - 15:40

South Gallery Room 7 & 8

Chaired by: Andy Hill, Marine Geohazard Technical Authority, BP Exploration and Richard Salisbury, Senior Consultant, Fugro

Three of the four presentations in this session cover the use of geophysical data for interpreting and assessing contrasting seafloor features and potential geohazards. These are slope instability, shallow imaging above a gas field and deep water carbonate concretions. The fourth presentation examines the use of seismic inversion in the context of site investigations.

Submarine Slope Instability Hazard for Offshore Developments: How Can We Fill Outstanding Knowledge and Certainty Gaps?
Michael Clare, Senior Researcher, National Oceanography Centre

Step-Change in Shallow Imaging Above the Tangguh Gas Fields, Indonesia
Sarah Putri, Geophysicist, BP

Deep-water Carbonate Concretions and Their Impact on Submarine Geohazard and Cable Burial Assessment
Chris Ruoso, Geotechnical Coordinator, Next Geosolutions Europe
(White paper of presentation available from Documents tab below)

Seismic Inversion for Site Investigation: How and Where Should We Use It?
