Prof. Visbeck holds a professorship at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and Kiel University. His research includes ocean circulation, climate and ocean sustainability. His group makes use of data from research vessel expeditions supplemented increasingly by modern robotic platforms including profiling floats and gliders and ocean observatories as well as remotely sensed parameter. Furthermore, he is developing new conceptual frameworks to advance sustained ocean observing and integrated marine research in the context of ocean sustainable development at the regional and international level.
