Maritime Security

Wednesday, 14th March 2012, South Gallery, Room 7/8
The last decade has seen a dramatic rise in the potential threat, in its many different guises, from the sea: Piracy, terrorism, insurgency, border disputes, narcotic, illegal immigration, protest and military.
The economic impact caused by a threat to maritime assets and infrastructure and the consequent psychological impact on national pride has led to a substantial growth in requirements for integrated surveillance, control and command of sensor platforms. This, in turn, is forcing the threat into new domains – often still classed as “the soft underbelly” of maritime security –underwater.
- The successful detection, tracking and classification of underwater and surface threats and how the data is managed in an integrated system to reduce false alarm rates and minimise “false positives”
- The locating and identification of potential threats to safe navigation and operation of waterside critical infrastructure, including (but not limited to) ports, offshore platforms and industry
