New Scientist Session

Offshore renewables: challenges and opportunities

New Scientist

The age of marine renewable energy is upon us. Off the coast of the UK alone there is already a massive opportunity for windfarm developers, tidal turbines have demonstrated their worth and wave generation is advancing rapidly.

To reach their present state these technologies have needed much scientific and engineering innovation. But there is more to be done if they are to become as efficient as possible and fulfil their commercial promise. What challenges have been overcome and where will the next opportunities arise?
